After numerous complaints over website problems with HealthCare.gov, the Obama administration Friday announced they are giving consumers an extra eight days to sign up for health coverage that takes effect Jan. 1.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services — a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the parent of the Center for Consumer Information & Insurance Oversight — said it will push the individual coverage enrollment deadline to Dec. 23, from Dec. 15.

An alternative method is provided to assist the citizens of North Carolina into the Market Place. To current BCBS of NC customers, be on the lookout for a letter in December!

You will be able to keep your 2013 plan, or switch to the new ACA plans that are offered. You will be able to do either........look for the letter early December Good news: Most of our non-grandfathered individual customers will be able to keep their current health plans for another year. This includes customers with Blue Advantage®, Blue Advantage SaverSM, Blue ValueSM and Blue Options HSA whose plans were in place as of Oct. 1, 2013. These customers will have two options. To automatically renew their 2013 plan on Jan. 1 for another year OR choose an ACA-compliant plan, which might come with additional benefits and a subsidy. Grandfathered Plans & Non Grandfathered Plans

If you are on a "grandfathered" plan, you will just leave it as is.........and it will automatically renew. If you make a change to your "grandfathered" plan....your plan will end on 12.31.2013. MAKE SURE NOT TO CHANGE SOMETHING ON YOUR GRANDFATHERED PLAN, IF YOU WANT TO KEEP IT!! For current customers "non grandfathered" BCBS of NC under 65. You can now view your renewal rates under the my member section of Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC's website. If you will qualify for a subsidy, you will have to wait until the government fixes their website to apply for your subsidy. You will have the ability to apply for your subsidy through Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC's website. However, this is not supposed to happen to at least the end of November. (Government has said November 30th.......keep in mind these dates keep getting moved back) If you will not qualify for a subsidy and you want to proceed with your renewal, please go online through the my member services portal.....or call our office and we can talk to you about your renewal plans for 2014.
